You don’t have to look long or hard these days to find “fake”. Fake news, fake “reality” tv, fake politicians displaying fake rage vowing to “fix” problems they created and, maybe most appallingly, fake meat in the grocery store. I could go on with more fake stuff, but you get the point.
As it turns out, it’s not hard to find truth either:
1 Kings 17:24
“Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is the truth.”
Truth can be a slippery thing. We all run what we read, see and hear through our personal rose colored glasses before we form our own opinion of truth. And, regrettably, some folks even run the Word of God through their rose colored glasses before confidently and arrogantly declaring “truth”.
2 Timothy 2:15
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved , a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
We have a responsibility too. God has given us incredible gifts: salvation through Jesus Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit among them. Our responsibility is understand (as best we can, flesh that we are) and follow God’s Word and guidance without perverting those gifts for our own human advantage.
Ephesians 6:14
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.
It’s often said that life imitates art. In “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand, one the characters, a politician, explains that the laws of man are intentionally confusing and cannot be followed. Essentially, the same problem Jesus faced with religious leaders of the time. Jesus, of course, made this much simpler: Love God with all your heart and soul and love they neighbor as you love yourself.
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 1:17
For me, the Word of God is a singular source of truth in a world full of satan’s lies and nonsense. And, satan unmistakably, for now, holds the keys to this world. But… we still have the remarkable gifts from God that we can always count on.
John 8:32
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
